St. Mary’s School offers an outstanding academic program that strives to form the minds, hearts, and souls of its students in the likeness of Christ. Together with our Pastor, our Principal, our teachers, our parents, and our Education Commission, we offer a core curriculum that builds a solid foundation in academics along with our Catholic faith values that helps prepare our students for the many challenges that they will face as they progress through their school years. Our mission “To know, to love, and to serve God” drives the very core of our school. Our students are given the opportunity to pray and to study religion daily. Service to others and for others remains a focus for our students.
In addition to our core curriculum, St. Mary’s offers our students’ daily religion classes, P. E. and music twice a week and weekly art and computer classes. Our annual Fine Arts night is held in the spring. We showcase our students’talents in choral music, band, and art on that night. Scholastic Bowl, Math Team, Student Council, Speech Team, Music and Choral Contests, an annual Cultural Fair, Religion Trivia Contest, Spelling and Geography Bees, cheerleading, and our successful sports teams contribute to the total whole child experience at St. Mary’s.
Our small class sizes, average 20 or less, give our teachers more opportunities to work with a student on a one on one basis or in small group settings. To help assess a student’s strengths and weaknesses a comprehensive assessment program has been implemented. We use the Iowa Test of Basic Skills in September, the ACRE Religion test in January, the Metritech Writing Test in February, and the Aimsweb math and reading test in the fall, winter, and spring. These assessments drive our curriculum and the daily lessons of our teachers.
Any family that is interested in visiting the school is welcome to do so by calling the school at (815) 844-6585 for an appointment.
Through the generosity and prayers of our faithful parishioners, St. Mary’s School has been in existence for 110 years.
Come and join us and be a part of something special!
