November 26, 2008 Dear 7th grade parents: Thanks for your great attendance at conferences and for your support. Our working together is the best way to help the students to grow in maturity and academics. Our field trip to Springfield, New Salem, and Illinois State University will be Thursday, April 30, 2009, from 7:00 a.m. Mass until about 9:00 9:30 p.m. If you want to go with us, please write me a note saying so. Thanks. The 7th Grade Cultural Fair will be held in the parish hall on Friday, December 5, from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Students will need their presentation boards (which are due for Social Studies on Wednesday, December 3) and whatever else they are going to show or wear for their country. This project involves grades in social studies, computer, and English. Remember, each student needs a flashlight for the Christmas program. Please send these to school with your name on them. The 7th grade will carol to shut-ins on Friday, December 19, from 12:00 noon to 1:30 p.m. Please send the names of elderly relatives and neighbors who dont get out much who would enjoy being serenaded. We still need drivers, too. We do have four drivers, so one more would be perfect! For your information, the 7th graders will write a book report in class on Thursday, December 11. The students need to have the book read by that date. Do you have any more ideas for our raffle at the 5th and 6th grade boys basketball tournament? Please let me know. Sue Ledford is putting together a Cubs basket. Does anyone have access to any sports tickets that we could raffle Cubs, White Sox, Illinois, arena football, hockey? I hope you all have a happy Thanksgiving with your family around you? Sincerely, (Mrs.) Katie Wille
During this school year each student will have an opportunity to be introduced during the "Meet the Seventh Graders" campaign. Everyone has a copy of the bright colored "Meet the Seventh Graders" paper to be filled in. These will be handed in the first week of school. Following the schedule below, everyone will have his/her sheet hung on the big star on the podium as an introduction to the class and everyone else who comes into the room. Each student may put up a couple of favorite pictures of himself/herself and a symbol representing who he/she is or what he/she likes.

NO QUESTIONS ASKED COUPONS (NQA) One No Questions Asked Coupon (NQA) will be given to each student in sixth/eighth grade math at the beginning of each quarter to be used in math class ONLY. This coupon may be used for a late math assignment. This does not include when a student has been sick and work is late because he/she has been absent. It can also be used to boost a quarter math grade by one percentage point if the coupon has not been used for a late assignment during that quarter. The late assignment must be turned in the day after it is due with the NQA coupon attached. Full credit will be given. The assignment should be put in the late box. Be sure that the page numbers for the assignment are written on the paper. This NQA is in place of a homework pass. One assignment may be late, but it must be completed. Use this coupon with caution because only one is given for the whole quarter.
Figuring Math Grade for Mrs. Willes Math Classes for the Quarter For Grades 6, 7, & 8 Grades will be determined by tests, homework, class participation, quizzes, and various other assignments. Tests will count 1/3 of the quarter grade, homework and class participation will count 1/3 of the quarter grade, and quizzes and other assignments will count 1/3 of the quarter grade. Sometimes other assignments will be writing assignments which might count as a test grade or quiz grade, but the student will know this when the assignment is given. Homework will be assigned almost every day and graded the next day. It should include the notes explaining the lesson and examples given on the lesson. It should be done in pencil and WORK SHOULD BE SHOWN! The grade on homework is an overall grade determined by work shown, evidence of effort, neatness, completeness, etc. Do not just copy answers from the back of the book or from the calculator and expect credit. Checking the assignment with a calculator is a good idea. Calculators will not be used on quizzes and tests, so a student should not be dependent on them. The possible grades for homework are given below: + (3) Most of the problems are correct. A serious attempt at completing all the problems has been made. Work shows a clear understanding of concepts. All directions are followed, notes are complete, problems are corrected in red pen, work is done neatly, all work is shown, etc. - (1) A large number of problems are missed, some problems have not been attempted, there is little evidence of effort, gaps in conceptual understanding are evident, and the work is not neat, etc. 0 (0) The assignment is incomplete, notes have not all be copied, directions have not been followed, assignment is not done in pencil and corrected in red pen, work is not shown, answers are copied from the back of the book or a calculator, etc.
