7th GRADE JOURNALS
A journal entry of one notebook page (front and back) will be required of each 7th grade student each week. The prompt (topic) will be given on Monday or Tuesday and the journal will be due on Friday. (These days could change with days off.) The front page will be written on the prompt topic and the back page will be written on whatever the student wants to write about – usually what has happened during the past week, a reaction to something that has happened in the student’s life, or just the feelings of the students about some topic. This back page material should not be written in list form, but in paragraph form in complete sentences and good punctuation.
Each journal entry is a daily grade in English. The grade for each journal entry will be based on what is said (content), not how it is said (grammar). The purpose of this journal is to give the students experience writing so they are comfortable with putting their thoughts on paper. However, the entry should be proofread so that the writing can be the best that the student can do.
The writing will be graded on a 1-10 scale, with 10 being the best. These numbers will then translate into 10% to 100% as a daily grade.
