Dear Fourth Grade Parents,
Hello again! I wanted to send you some more information about a few of my policies for this year.
During the year I will be trying to help your child become more organized. We have labeled all of his/her folders and notebooks so that assignments and handouts will be easily found. We will be having some homework most nights, but I try to avoid giving homework on weekends and holidays.
We will be using our assignment books every day, and I encourage you to check your child’s book and remind him/her to be responsible for his/her work. After allowing a brief time
to get into a routine, I will be issuing a warning slip if an assignment is missing indicating what needs to be turned in. This is simply to let you know right away so that no one will fall behind. I ask that you help your child find or do the missing work and send it back to me with the slip, signing your name on it so that I know you saw the slip. If three warnings must be issued for an incident, your child will have to serve a detention until 3:45. Everyone seems very willing to please so far, so I hope I will not have to issue many warning slips.
On Fridays, a manila folder will come home with graded papers. I ask that you look over the papers, sign and date the folder, and send it back on Monday, empty. If there are any tests in the folder, please sign and return them for an extra 2% increase in the grade. Also, please feel free to send a note to me in the folder if you have any questions. This folder should be kept at school all week so that the students will have a special place to put graded papers. It should also help keep desks neater. We will start Friday folders this week.
I will try to keep you informed of projects and activities through letters such as these. I will also put them on the website. I feel that good school and home communication is essential, so please do no hesitate to drop me a note or an email if you have any questions or concerns. As stated in my note last Friday, my school email for now is: mrsvoigts@hotmail.com.
Later in the year we will be exploring some classroom novels, reading to our kindergarten buddies, starting band (meetings are this week), attending AG events, raising butterflies, having Poetry Cafes, doing state projects and taking a field trip. We also will be doing a lot of writing this year including books for our kindergarten buddies and sending entries to the Flying Horse column.
I hope fourth grade will be a great year for your child. So far everyone has tried to be cooperative and well mannered, and I hope this great behavior will continue. I have stressed these two qualities daily along with patience, respect, kindness, and courage. Our school community as a whole is stressing positive attitudes and encouraging everyone to smile and greet everyone they meet throughout the day so that we can be a joyful place to learn. I’m sure our class can take the lead in displaying all these virtues.
It will take a couple of weeks for us to get into a routine with the schedule and the heat. Cooler weather will help all of us, so please pray for it to happen soon.
Thanks in advance for all of your cooperation and support. We couldn’t succeed without your help God Bless!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Voigts
